Child Speech Therapy in Langley

Children build communication skills at different rates. When speech is hard to understand, words are slow to emerge, or everyday conversations feel frustrating, a speech-language assessment can clarify what is happening and what to do next.

When speech therapy may help

Consider an assessment if your child is difficult for familiar or unfamiliar listeners to understand, uses fewer words than expected, struggles to combine words, has trouble following directions, becomes frustrated when communicating, or finds back-and-forth conversation difficult.

A practical, child-led approach

Sessions use play, movement, books and your child’s interests to create many meaningful communication opportunities. Parents are included so strategies can carry into meals, routines, daycare and family play—not stay in the therapy room.

Goals we may work on

Depending on assessment results, goals can include speech sound production, vocabulary, sentence development, understanding questions and directions, storytelling, social communication, fluency, or access to augmentative and alternative communication.

What happens first

We begin by learning about the concern, the child’s strengths, relevant history and the situations where communication is easiest or hardest. Recommendations are individualized after that conversation or assessment.

Educational information only: This page cannot determine whether a child has a communication disorder. Individual assessment is required for clinical recommendations.

Questions families ask

Do I need a referral?

A referral is generally not required for private speech-language services. Check your extended-health plan for reimbursement requirements.

Is therapy suitable for every child?

The right format depends on assessment findings, goals, age and family priorities. An initial conversation helps determine fit.

Can we attend virtually?

Virtual services may be available across BC when appropriate for the child and goals.
