Language Delay Therapy in Langley

Language includes understanding words and directions, expressing ideas, building sentences, telling stories and using communication with other people. Support is tailored to the child’s strengths and everyday needs.

Receptive and expressive language

Receptive language is what a child understands. Expressive language is how they communicate thoughts, needs and experiences through speech, gestures, signs, pictures or devices. Both areas can be assessed and supported.

Early communication

For toddlers and preschoolers, intervention often centres on parent coaching, play and daily routines. Strategies may include following the child’s lead, modelling useful language, pausing for turns and creating natural reasons to communicate.

School-age language

Older children may need help with vocabulary, grammar, narrative skills, comprehension, classroom instructions or organizing ideas. Goals are chosen for practical impact at school, home and with peers.

What happens first

We begin by learning about the concern, the child’s strengths, relevant history and the situations where communication is easiest or hardest. Recommendations are individualized after that conversation or assessment.

Educational information only: This page cannot determine whether a child has a communication disorder. Individual assessment is required for clinical recommendations.

Questions families ask

Do I need a referral?

A referral is generally not required for private speech-language services. Check your extended-health plan for reimbursement requirements.

Is therapy suitable for every child?

The right format depends on assessment findings, goals, age and family priorities. An initial conversation helps determine fit.

Can we attend virtually?

Virtual services may be available across BC when appropriate for the child and goals.
